The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which occurred on December 7, 1941, caused significant damage and loss of life. The bombing raid destroyed or severely damaged eight battleships, three cruisers, and four destroyers, as well as numerous aircraft and buildings. More than 2,400 Americans were killed, including military personnel and civilians, and nearly 1,200 others were injured. The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II.
