In 3–5 sentences, make a connection between industrialization in Europe and renewed European efforts at colonization, including two elements of continuity and two elements of change.(4 points)

Industrialization in Europe fueled renewed efforts at colonization through the 19th and early 20th centuries. A continuity was the European quest for resources, as industrialization increased the demand for raw materials such as rubber, coal and oil, motivating the colonization of regions rich in these resources. Another continuity was the desire for new markets to sell industrial goods, as the industrial revolution led to overproduction and the need to expand markets overseas. However, there were also changes, such as the shift from settler colonies to direct control of regions, as European powers sought to exploit resources and establish stronger political and economic control. Additionally, the competition between European powers intensified, with the scramble for Africa being a prime example of multiple European nations vying for control, rather than one dominant power.
