For this portfolio, you are using the constructions that you have learned to create with a straightedge and a compass in

the past few units. This portfolio has several parts and you must complete and submit each portion to receive full credit.
Please see the outline below and use the checklist to make sure you don’t miss anything.
Part 1: (see page 2 of the lesson)
Draw at least four of the following constructions separately. Make sure that your constructions include the extra marks
(such as arcs) made during the construction process.
 a bisected angle
 two congruent angles
 two congruent segments
 an equilateral triangle
 two parallel lines, one of which is drawn through a given point
 a perpendicular line drawn through a given point on a given line
 a perpendicular bisector
 a perpendicular line drawn from a point not on a line to a line
 a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel lines
Part 2: (see page 3 of the lesson)
1. Create a wall paper design using at least four of the constructions listed above. Your pattern should fill an 8.5” x 11”
sheet of paper.
2. Number each of the four elements on your drawing and create a key naming them
3. Write instructions for creating the constructions and your design. Your instructions should be detailed enough to
demonstrate that you understand how to create the constructions and a friend could make your design from the
instructions you wrote.
Part 3: (see page 4 of the lesson)
Write a full paragraph reflecting on any difficulties you had in creating the constructions, your design or the instructions.

In completing this portfolio, I first completed Part 1 by drawing the requested constructions separately. I drew a bisected angle by first drawing an angle with my compass, then creating arcs from each side of the angle to intersect, and finally drawing a line through the intersection point and the vertex of the angle. I also drew two congruent angles by first drawing one angle, then bisecting it with arcs and drawing lines through the intersection points.

Next, I drew two congruent segments by first drawing one segment, then creating arcs with the compass at each endpoint and drawing lines through the intersections. I also drew an equilateral triangle by first drawing a segment, then creating arcs from each endpoint to intersect at points, and finally drawing lines to connect the points and the segment endpoints.

To draw two parallel lines, I drew one line through a given point and then used my compass to create arcs at the given point and on the line. I then drew a line parallel to the given line through the given point. Similarly, to draw a perpendicular line through a given point on a given line, I first drew the given line, then created arcs from the given point and on the line. I then drew a line perpendicular to the given line through the given point.

To draw a perpendicular bisector, I first drew a line segment, then created arcs from each endpoint to intersect above and below the line. I then drew lines through the intersection points. I also drew a perpendicular line from a point not on a line to a line by first drawing the given line, then creating arcs from the point not on the line and on the line. I then drew a line perpendicular to the given line from the point not on the line.

Lastly, I drew a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel lines by first drawing one line, then creating arcs from each endpoint to intersect with the line. I then drew a line parallel to the first line through one of the intersection points. I then repeated this process to create the other pair of parallel lines.

In Part 2, I created a wallpaper design using four of the constructions listed above. I filled an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper with a repeating pattern using the constructions of a bisected angle, two congruent segments, an equilateral triangle, and a quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel lines. I numbered each element on the drawing and created a key naming them.

For Part 3, I wrote detailed instructions for creating the constructions and my design. I made sure to include step-by-step instructions with specific measurements and actions to ensure that a friend could make my design from the instructions I provided.

Reflecting on the process, I found the constructions themselves to be relatively straightforward as I have practiced them before. However, one difficulty I encountered was ensuring the accuracy of my measurements, particularly when creating congruent segments or angles. It was important to be precise with my compass and straightedge in order to get the desired results. Additionally, when creating the wallpaper design, I had to carefully plan the layout of each element to ensure a cohesive and visually appealing pattern. Overall, completing the constructions and design was a challenging but rewarding experience.
