Math 7 B unit 3 angle pairs lesson 2 measure angles

In this lesson, you will learn how to measure angles.

An angle is formed by two rays with a common endpoint. The common endpoint is called the vertex of the angle, and the rays are called the sides.

To measure an angle, you will use a protractor. A protractor is a tool used to measure angles. It has a semi-circular shape with degree markings along the curved edge.

To measure an angle, follow these steps:

1. Place the center of the protractor on the vertex of the angle.
2. Align one of the protractor's sides with one of the angle's sides.
3. Read the number on the protractor's curved edge where the other side of the angle intersects.
4. This number represents the measure of the angle in degrees.

Angles are typically measured in degrees. A full circle has 360 degrees, so a straight angle -- which is a line -- measures 180 degrees.

There are three types of angles based on their measures:

1. Acute angle: An acute angle measures less than 90 degrees. It is a small angle.
2. Right angle: A right angle measures exactly 90 degrees. It is formed by a vertical and horizontal line meeting.
3. Obtuse angle: An obtuse angle measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees. It is a larger angle.

Remember to use a protractor and follow the steps to accurately measure angles.
