Which process do plants and animals share in common?

One common process shared by plants and animals is respiration. Respiration is the process of obtaining energy from organic molecules, such as glucose, and converting it into a usable form, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). In plants, respiration occurs in specialized organelles called mitochondria, while in animals, it occurs in the mitochondria of cells throughout the body. Both plants and animals use oxygen in respiration and produce carbon dioxide as a waste product.
