Where does hail come from?

from wind storms

from dew

from fog clouds

from cumulonimbus clouds

from cirrus clouds

Hail comes from cumulonimbus clouds, which are large storm clouds typically associated with thunderstorms. Within these clouds, strong updrafts carry small ice pellets upward into cooler regions of the cloud where they accumulate layers of ice. This process continues until the hailstones become too heavy for the updrafts to support, causing them to fall to the ground as hail.
