The Sioux Indians lived in what is today Minnesota and South Dakota in the seventeenth century. In the latter part of the 1800's, they fought battles against the United States military. After the Battle of Wounded Knee, the Sioux were assigned to reservations where they have worked to maintain their culture and way of life.
