John Brown planned to use the guns he seized at Harper's Ferry in Virginia to arm slaves and incite a slave rebellion. He intended to establish a stronghold at the armory and use it as a base from which slaves in the area would join and fight for their freedom. However, his plan was ultimately unsuccessful as the rebellion was quickly suppressed by US troops led by Robert E. Lee. John Brown was captured, found guilty of treason, and executed for his actions.
