The role of the nucleolus is to produce ribosomes. It is involved in the assembly and production of ribosomal subunits, which are essential for protein synthesis. The nucleolus contains the DNA templates needed for ribosomal RNA synthesis and also houses the RNA and protein molecules required for ribosome formation.
