The research on Black women's experiences of gendered racism distinguishes itself from past developmental research and theories by centering the intersection of race and gender. This research acknowledges that Black women's experiences of racism and sexism cannot be understood separately but are intertwined and shape their lived realities. It recognizes the unique challenges faced by Black women, which have been largely overlooked in previous research and theories that focused on monolithic experiences of gender and race.
