One quote that stood out to me was when Elie's father is selected to be transferred to a different block, and Elie becomes overwhelmed with fear and desperation. He says, "instinctively, I rushed forward to hold his hand" (Night, page 97). This quote really made me think about the strong bond between a parent and child, and how even in the midst of unimaginable terror, Elie's first instinct was to protect his father and hold on to him. It shows the power of the love and connection between family members, even in the face of death.

In the survivor poetry, I chose the poem "Never Shall I Forget" by Elie Wiesel. The mood of this poem is bleak and haunting. The use of repetitive phrases such as "never shall I forget" creates a sense of intense recollection and emphasizes the lasting impact of the Holocaust on the speaker. The tone is filled with despair and a deep sense of loss, as the speaker reflects on the horrors they witnessed and the lasting trauma it has inflicted upon them. This is evident in lines such as "Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to ashes" and "Never shall I forget the nocturnal silence which deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live." The combination of vivid imagery and emotional language evokes a powerful sense of the speaker's pain and the indelible mark the Holocaust has left on their psyche.
