What is regrouping in math

Regrouping in math, also known as borrowing or carrying, is a technique used when performing operations with numbers that involve carrying over or borrowing digits from one place value to another.

In addition, when the sum of two digits in a column is greater than 9, regrouping is done by carrying the tens digit to the next column and writing down the ones digit in the current column.

In subtraction, if the top digit in a column is smaller than the bottom digit, regrouping is done by borrowing from the next column by lowering the digit in that column by one and adding 10 to the current column.

Regrouping is also utilized in multiplying and dividing numbers with multiple digits in order to ensure correct calculation and alignment of numbers.
