What is angina

Angina is a symptom characterized by chest pain or discomfort that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive sufficient oxygen-rich blood. It typically occurs due to a partial blockage in the coronary arteries, which are responsible for supplying blood to the heart. Angina is often described as a squeezing, pressure, heaviness, or tightness in the chest, but it can also cause pain or discomfort in the arms, neck, jaw, shoulder, or back. It may be triggered by physical exertion, emotional stress, extreme temperatures, or after a heavy meal. Angina is usually a sign of an underlying heart condition, such as coronary artery disease, and can potentially lead to a heart attack if not treated appropriately.
