The presence of a large impact crater, such as the Chicxulub crater in Mexico, best supports the evidence that asteroid collision may have caused the extinction of dinosaurs. The Chicxulub crater is approximately 180 kilometers (110 miles) in diameter and is thought to have been formed around the same time as the extinction event, suggesting a possible connection. Additionally, the impact would have released a tremendous amount of energy, resulting in widespread devastation and environmental changes that could have led to the extinction of dinosaurs. The discovery of a layer of sediment containing high levels of iridium, a rare element found in higher concentrations in asteroids, further supports the theory of an asteroid collision as the cause of the dinosaur extinction.
