Japanese samurai were drawn to Bushido, the code of conduct followed by samurai warriors. Bushido placed great emphasis on discipline, self-control, honor, loyalty, and the mastery of martial arts. It provided a moral and ethical framework for samurai and guided their actions both in times of peace and war.
