The Aztecs adapted to their environment by building chinampas, or artificial islands, in order to grow crops on the swampy terrain of the Valley of Mexico. They also constructed causeways and canals to navigate the wetlands and control the flow of water. Additionally, the Aztecs developed a sophisticated irrigation system to ensure their crops received sufficient water. Overall, their adaptations were successful as they were able to sustain a large population and create a powerful empire in the region.
