Calcium is not commonly deposited by black smokers on the sea floor. Instead, minerals such as iron, manganese, sulfides, and hydrothermal minerals like pyrite, chalcopyrite, and sphalerite are often deposited by black smokers. These minerals form as hot, mineral-rich fluids are expelled from the vents and mix with colder seawater.
