A compound sentence is a sentence that consists of two or more independent clauses, joined together by coordinating conjunctions (such as "and," "but," or "or"), by a semicolon, or by a semicolon followed by a conjunctive adverb (such as "however" or "therefore"). These independent clauses express related ideas but are able to stand alone as separate sentences.
