Explain

What is the difference between a gene and allele ? Give an example of multiple alleles for a gene.

A gene is a specific region of DNA that codes for a particular trait or characteristic. Genes are responsible for the inheritance of traits from parents to their offspring.

On the other hand, an allele is a specific variant or form of a gene. Genes can have multiple alleles, which means there can be different versions or variations of that gene. These different versions can result in different expressions of the same trait.

For example, the gene responsible for eye color in humans has multiple alleles. One common gene is for brown eye color, while another common gene is for blue eye color. These two alleles, brown and blue, are versions of the same gene that result in different eye colors. Additionally, there are other less common alleles that can result in green or hazel eye colors. In this case, the gene for eye color has multiple alleles, each leading to a different variation in eye color.
