After I finish high school, I would like to:

Either work at a mental hospital or a sports commentator
What do I need to do to achieve this goal? (Identify at least 3 steps you need to take to reach this goal).

Two things I have learned from this course that will help me achieve this goal are:

1. Education and Training: To work at a mental hospital, it would be beneficial to pursue a degree in psychology, social work, or a related field. This will provide you with the necessary knowledge and understanding of mental health and treatment approaches. Similarly, to become a sports commentator, you may need to obtain a degree in journalism, broadcasting, or sports communication. Additionally, gaining experience through internships or volunteer opportunities in mental health facilities or sports media outlets can be valuable in preparing for these careers.

2. Networking and Building Connections: Networking is crucial in both fields. Attend professional events, conferences, and workshops related to mental health or sports broadcasting to connect with professionals in the industry. Building relationships with mentors, professors, and professionals can provide guidance, job opportunities, and references. Utilize online platforms such as LinkedIn to connect with individuals working in these industries and to stay updated on job openings.

3. Developing Skills and Building a Portfolio: Depending on the career path you choose, certain skills are essential. For working in a mental hospital, acquiring skills such as active listening, communication, empathy, and problem-solving will be vital. Consider gaining practical experience through internships, volunteering, or part-time jobs in mental health settings. For a sports commentator role, developing strong communication skills, a deep understanding of sports rules and strategies, and the ability to provide engaging commentary are crucial. Building a portfolio showcasing your work, such as commentating on local sporting events or creating mental health awareness campaigns, can help you stand out during job applications and interviews.

From this course, some of the valuable skills that can aid in pursuing both goals are effective communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and knowledge of psychology. Effective communication skills will be essential in interacting with patients in a mental hospital or engaging audiences as a sports commentator. Critical thinking skills can help in assessing and solving problems effectively in both professions. Additionally, knowledge of psychology can provide a comprehensive understanding of the human mind, behaviors, and mental health issues, which can be applicable in both fields.
