Define AIDS

AIDS stands for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. It is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system by destroying the white blood cells that are crucial for fighting off infections and diseases. As the immune system becomes compromised, individuals with HIV become susceptible to various opportunistic infections and certain types of cancers. AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection, characterized by a severely weakened immune system and the presence of specific opportunistic infections or cancers.
