a. nucleus

In eukaryotic cells, the majority of the DNA is found in the nucleus. Eukaryotic cells may also have DNA within the mitochondria and, in the case of plants and algae, within the chloroplasts. These organelles are involved in energy production and photosynthesis, respectively, and they carry their own small circular DNA. However, the main genomic DNA that controls most cellular functions and characteristics is located within the nucleus.
