Each year, about ___ percent of Americans experience the symptoms of a mental disorder. However, the majority of these people do not seek help.

As of my last update in 2023, approximately 20% of Americans experience the symptoms of a mental health disorder each year. However, it's important to note that this figure can fluctuate based on various factors, such as changes in diagnostic criteria, survey methods, or actual changes in mental health prevalence.

Despite the significant number of people affected by mental health issues, a majority do not seek professional help due to reasons such as stigma, lack of awareness, access to care, cost, or believing they can handle it on their own. Efforts to reduce barriers to mental health care and to raise public awareness about the importance of mental health are critical in addressing this gap in treatment.
