D. African Americans

A,B,C or D?

D. African Americans

African Americans gained more political participation when amendments were added to the United States Constitution. Notably, the 15th Amendment, ratified in 1870, prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on that citizen's "race, color, or previous condition of servitude." This was intended to enfranchise African American men after the Civil War. Later, the Civil Rights Movement led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which further strengthened the political rights and participation of African Americans.
