In 1717, Blackbeard and his men took over a French ship and named it Queen Anne's Revenge, after the Queen of England. The English Navy then considered Blackbeard and his crew wanted criminals. The next year, the ship ran aground near the North Carolina coast. The pirates went into hiding. Later, Blackbeard was found and put to death for his crimes.
