On a map, Germany is located in Central Europe. It is bordered by nine countries: Denmark to the north, Poland and the Czech Republic to the east, Austria and Switzerland to the south, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands to the west. Germany is roughly shaped like an irregular pentagon, with the North Sea and Baltic Sea forming its northern coastline. It is approximately rectangular in its northern half, while the southern half consists of the Bavarian Alps and various mountain ranges.
