Producers of the ocean ecosystem

*How much energy do they get from the sun?

Producers in the ocean ecosystem, such as phytoplankton and algae, receive their energy from the sun through a process called photosynthesis. They use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and nutrients in the water to produce organic matter and oxygen.

The amount of energy they receive from the sun depends on various factors including sunlight availability, water depth, and the presence of other factors that may limit photosynthesis. On average, they receive around 1-2% of the total solar energy that reaches the Earth's surface. However, in some highly productive areas such as coastal upwelling zones, the energy input can be significantly higher.
