The Battle of Kettle Creek was fought during the American Revolution. It involved the British and Loyalist forces against the Patriot militia from Georgia. The event took place in the backwoods of Georgia, near present-day Wilkes County.
On February 14, 1779, the Patriots led by Colonel Andrew Pickens and Colonel John Dooly ambushed and defeated the British and Loyalist troops under the command of Colonel James Boyd. The Patriots successfully captured supplies and about 100 prisoners, while suffering fewer casualties.
The battle at Kettle Creek was significant in Georgia's history as it was a major victory for the Patriots. It boosted morale among the Georgia militia and encouraged more support for the Patriot cause. It also weakened the British and Loyalist control over the area, allowing the Patriots to gain momentum in future battles and ultimately contributing to the overall success of the American Revolution.
