A natural sign, which looks like a "#" symbol, is used in music notation to cancel or modify a previous accidental in a measure. It returns a note to its natural pitch, overriding any sharps or flats that may have been present from previous measures or key signatures. In other words, a natural sign removes the effect of any sharp or flat that precedes it and reverts the note back to its original (or "natural") pitch.
