Carnivorous plants are plants that derive some or most of their nutrients from trapping and consuming animals, usually insects and other invertebrates. Carnivorous plants have adapted to grow in places where the soil is thin or poor in nutrients, especially nitrogen, such as acidic bogs and rocky outcroppings.

There are five typical traps that carnivorous plants use to catch their prey. Pitfall traps use a waxy surface that causes victims to slip and fall into a pool of digestive juices. Flypaper traps have a sweet, sticky surface that bugs are attracted to, but can’t escape when they land on it. Snap traps snap shut when little hairs on the surface of the plant are touched. Bladder traps usually use water to suck prey in with a bladder that forms an internal vacuum. And lobster pot traps allows things in, but tiny hairs bar movement out.
Carnivorous plants are found all over the world, but they are rather rare to find. If a person is really interested in carnivorous plants, they are for sale in many greenhouses.
