How did the Spanish respond to the establishment of a French settlement in Texas in 1682?

The Spanish responded to the establishment of a French settlement in Texas in 1682 by asserting their territorial claims and trying to drive out the French. They considered the French presence a threat to their control over the region. The Spanish governor of Coahuila, Alonso de León, led several military expeditions to expel the French from Texas. In 1689, de León successfully destroyed the French settlement of Fort Saint Louis, effectively ending the French presence in Texas.
