which type of mutation causes cystic fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis is caused by a mutation in a gene called the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. Specifically, the most common mutation that causes cystic fibrosis is the deletion of three nucleotides in the CFTR gene, resulting in the loss of the amino acid phenylalanine at position 508. This mutation is known as the F508del mutation.
