The writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence:

The Battle of Kettle Creek:

- Who was involved? The Battle of Kettle Creek involved American forces led by Patriot militia colonel John Dooly, and Loyalist forces led by Lieutenant Colonel James Boyd. Local Georgia militias also played a significant role.

- What happened? The Battle of Kettle Creek was a Revolutionary War engagement fought in the backcountry of Georgia. The Patriots launched a surprise attack on the Loyalist forces, resulting in a decisive victory for the Patriots.

- What happened? The Siege of Savannah was a failed attempt by American and French forces to recapture the city of Savannah from British control during the Revolutionary War. The battle resulted in a decisive British victory.

- Where did the event take place? The siege took place in Savannah, Georgia.

- What region(s) of Georgia did the event take place in? The Siege of Savannah took place in the Coastal region of Georgia.

- When did the event take place? The siege occurred from September 16 to October 18, 1779.

- Why is this event important to Georgia’s history? The Siege of Savannah was a major military campaign with consequences for the Revolutionary War in Georgia. The failure to recapture Savannah reinforced British control in the state.

The Articles of Confederation:

- Who was involved? The Articles of Confederation were drafted and agreed upon by delegates from the thirteen states, including representatives from Georgia.

- What happened? The Articles of Confederation established the first formal government for the United States. It provided a framework for a weak central government, granting limited powers to the federal government and granting significant autonomy to the individual states.

The Constitutional Convention and the new US Constitution:

- What happened? The Constitutional Convention was held to address the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and to draft a new plan of government for the United States. The result was the U.S. Constitution, which outlined the structure and powers of the federal government.
