One belief system that holds the view that God predetermined who will be saved is Calvinism. John Calvin, a theologian of the Protestant Reformation, developed the concept of predestination, which asserts that God, in His sovereignty, chooses certain individuals to receive salvation irrespective of their actions or merits. This belief is known as "double predestination," as it also includes the notion that God has predetermined some individuals for damnation.
