All of the options listed (timber, gold, oil, and water) were valuable to western settlers in relation to Sioux land. The land possessed abundant resources such as timber for building and fuel, gold and oil for mining and extraction, and water sources for irrigation and domestic use. The presence of these resources made the Sioux land enticing to settlers and contributed to conflicts over their control and exploitation.
