The Buddha believed that following the Eightfold Path could lead to the cessation of suffering and the attainment of enlightenment or awakening (Nirvana). He taught that by following these eight practices, individuals could overcome the causes of suffering, develop wisdom and understanding, cultivate ethical conduct, and cultivate mental discipline. Ultimately, following the Eightfold Path would lead to the end of craving, ignorance, and attachment, and result in liberation from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
