Thomas Kyd was an English playwright known for his famous tragedy The Spanish Tragedy, which is considered one of the earliest examples of the revenge tragedy genre. Little is known about Kyd's life, as his birth and death dates remain uncertain. He was likely born in London around 1558 and died around 1594. Kyd studied at the Merchant Taylors' School in London and possibly attended the University of Cambridge. He is believed to have worked as a playwright and possibly as a secret agent for Queen Elizabeth I's government.
