The usa imperelized the phillipines but granted independence

The United States did indeed imperialize the Philippines during the Spanish-American War in 1898. After defeating Spain, the U.S. acquired control over the Philippines, which had been a Spanish colony for more than 300 years.

Initially, the United States intended to bring modernization, economic development, and political stability to the Philippines. However, this led to a series of conflicts, including the Philippine-American War from 1899-1902, as Filipinos resisted American rule and fought for their independence.

Over time, the U.S. implemented various reforms and policies aimed at preparing the Philippines for self-governance. In 1935, the Tydings-McDuffie Act was passed, which provided a framework for Philippine independence. This act established a 10-year transition period, after which the Philippines would be granted independence.

Finally, on July 4, 1946, the United States officially granted independence to the Philippines, making it the first fully sovereign nation in Southeast Asia.
