Some scientists speculate that the Raptorex, a recently discovered fossil, may have been a tiny ancestor to the famous Tyrannosaurus rex (T. rex). The Raptorex appears to have had all the features of T. rex: a large head, sharp teeth, tiny arms, and quick-moving feet. Yet it was about 100 times smaller than the T. rex. And since the Raptorex fossil is also considerably older than any known T. rex fossils, scientists think that the Raptorex species was an early family member of the T. rex. Paleontologist Paul Sereno even described the fossil as a "blueprint" for the T. rex.
