One thing I learned in this unit is that the American society and culture before the Civil War was deeply divided along regional lines, with the North and South having different economic systems and attitudes towards slavery. Another thing I learned is that the abolitionist movement gained momentum in the North during this time, leading to increased tensions between the North and the South. Additionally, I learned about the various forms of entertainment and leisure activities that were popular during this time, such as minstrel shows and parlor games.
