The Great Lakes are located in North America, straddling the border between the United States and Canada. Specifically, they lie in the upper Midwest region of the United States (bordering the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois) and in the southern portion of the Canadian province of Ontario.
