One character trait exhibited at the beginning of the story in "Call of the Wild" is bravery. This trait is evident when Buck, the main character, fearlessly confronts a group of feral dogs that are attacking him. In the text, it states, "He was not running away from them, for he could not get away from them. He was not turning his back upon them, for he had turned his back upon them twice that day. He was simply and purely giving battle to the enemy." This description by the author clearly portrays Buck's brave actions and his refusal to back down from a fight. Buck's bravery greatly affects the story, as it enables him to withstand the harshness of the wilderness and survive various confrontations. Additionally, his bravery helps him earn the respect and admiration of other characters, strengthening his relationships with them.
