WHAT IS THE APPENDIX

The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ located at the beginning of the large intestine. It is a vestigial organ, meaning it has lost its original function over time. The exact purpose of the appendix is still not fully understood, but it is believed to have some role in the immune system and gut health. In some cases, the appendix can become inflamed, leading to a condition called appendicitis, which requires surgical removal of the organ.
