Dor-na-Daerachas
Dor-na-Daerachas is a fictional location in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. It is a region located in the northern part of Beleriand, the western continent where most of the events in Tolkien's works take place.
Dor-na-Daerachas, also known as the Land of the Shadows, is described as a dark and eerie land surrounded by high mountains. It is an ancient realm ruled by Morgoth, the main antagonist in Tolkien's mythology, during the First Age. The land is depicted as dangerous and haunting, filled with evil creatures and covered in perpetual darkness.
One of the main features of Dor-na-Daerachas is the fortress of Angband, which serves as Morgoth's stronghold and base of operations. Angband is located on the iron-filled plain of Anfauglith and is heavily guarded, making it nearly impossible for anyone to access it.
Throughout the First Age, the forces of Morgoth, including dragons, Balrogs, and other dark creatures, come out of Angband to wage war against the elves, dwarves, and other free peoples of Beleriand. Eventually, after many battles, the land of Dor-na-Daerachas is destroyed and sunk beneath the sea at the end of the First Age.
Dor-na-Daerachas serves as an important setting in the epic tales of the First Age, particularly in "The Silmarillion" and "The Children of Húrin." It symbolizes the darkness and evil that threaten the world of Middle-earth and the heroic resistance of its inhabitants against them.
