On Mercator Projection world maps, the relative size of land masses at high and low latitudes is distorted. The shapes of continents are also distorted, and the size of Eastern land masses compared to Western ones may appear larger or smaller than they actually are. Additionally, the oceans are not shown accurately on Mercator Projection maps.
