Massachusetts and Rhode Island were founded as fishing villages and added to Massachusetts in 1652.
Maine was originally settled by fishing communities and was part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony until it became its own state in 1820.
Delaware was settled by Swedish and Dutch colonists in the 1600s and later became part of the English colony of Pennsylvania before becoming its own state in 1776.
Georgia was settled by British colonists in the 1730s, primarily as a buffer colony between South Carolina and Spanish Florida. It became its own state in 1788.
Hey! I have something to tell you all. Trust me pls. Stop cheating and actually go through the assignment, I know all of the work looks like a lot and it may feel overwhelming. But just trust me, once you get into the lessons it's fun and you'll have something to feel good about. (aka doing ur work by urself.) I did this lesson all by myself! It's always good to come on here and check your answers before you submit, if you got one wrong look back and ask yourself why you got that question wrong (it's okay to get stuff wrong, nobody is perfect and ur teachers know that too). If you have no idea what's going on, don't keep cheating. Go through the lesson and see what's going on. If you still don't know, look up the meanings of terms then write them down and study them. If you find some definitions hard to understand you can type it in like this, (I'm gonna use the word decimal as an example) "Decimal easy meaning for kids." Also, don't sleep on watching videos, they actually help. Take time on the weekends if you have to. If you're very behind, don't tell urself, "I just have to get these done, so I'll look up the answers for now then once Im back on track Ill do the work." That creates a bad habit of cheating, and TRUST ME you wont understand a thing that's happening. So take your time, remember this, quality over quantity. Bye, I hoped I helped. 1. Maine:
Maine was initially settled by various Native American tribes, including the Algonquian-speaking Wabanaki Confederacy. European explorers visited the area in the early 17th century, and in 1622, the English established a fishing station at Monhegan Island. However, it was not until 1629 that the Plymouth Company, an English company, made an unsuccessful attempt to establish a permanent settlement at the mouth of the Kennebec River. Maine became a part of Massachusetts in 1652.
2. Massachusetts:
Massachusetts was settled by the English in 1620 when the Pilgrims arrived aboard the Mayflower and established the Plymouth Colony. Over the next few decades, several other settlements were established in Massachusetts, including Boston in 1630. In 1691, the Province of Massachusetts Bay was formed, merging the Plymouth Colony and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Massachusetts continued to grow and played a significant role in the American Revolution.
3. Rhode Island:
Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams in 1636 after he was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for his religious beliefs. Williams and his followers established the settlement of Providence, which would later become the capital city of Rhode Island. Additional settlements, such as Portsmouth and Newport, were later founded in the area. In 1644, Rhode Island was granted a charter by the English Parliament, officially recognizing its existence. Rhode Island remained a separate colony from Massachusetts, but it was not until 1790 that it became the 13th state of the United States.
4. Pennsylvania:
Pennsylvania was founded by English Quaker William Penn in 1681. Penn envisioned a place that would provide religious freedom for all, including Quakers, who faced persecution in England. Penn acquired the land from King Charles II, and in 1682, he established the city of Philadelphia as the capital of Pennsylvania. The colony attracted different groups of settlers due to its religious tolerance and fertile farmland. Pennsylvania became one of the original 13 colonies and played a vital role in the American Revolution.
5. Delaware:
Delaware was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Lenape. The first European settlement in Delaware was established by the Dutch in 1631, but it was quickly destroyed by Native Americans. In 1638, the Swedish established the settlement of New Sweden on the Delaware River, which included parts of present-day Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. However, the Dutch eventually took control in 1655. In 1664, the English seized control of the region, and Delaware became a part of the English colony of New York. Delaware later gained its own separate identity and became the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
6. Georgia:
Georgia was the last of the original 13 colonies to be founded. It was established as a British colony in 1732 by James Oglethorpe as a place for debtors to start anew and as a buffer against Spanish expansion from Florida. Oglethorpe envisioned Georgia as a strictly regulated, utopian society. The first settlement, Savannah, was established in 1733. Over the years, Georgia grew into an important agricultural colony, known for its production of rice, indigo, and later cotton. In 1776, Georgia became the fourth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.
