International standard industrial classification of all economic activities in Rwanda

The International Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities (ISIC) is a system used to classify and categorize economic activities worldwide. It provides a standard framework for organizing and analyzing economic data across countries and sectors. In Rwanda, the ISIC is used to classify industries and activities for the purpose of collecting and reporting statistical data.

The most recent version of the ISIC used in Rwanda is the ISIC Rev. 4, which was adopted by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) in 2011. This classification system organizes economic activities into different sectors, sub-sectors, and categories based on their primary function or nature.

The main sectors covered by the ISIC in Rwanda include:

1. Agriculture, forestry, and fishing
2. Mining and quarrying
3. Manufacturing
4. Electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply
5. Water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities
6. Construction
7. Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
8. Transportation and storage
9. Accommodation and food service activities
10. Information and communication
11. Financial and insurance activities
12. Real estate activities
13. Professional, scientific, and technical activities
14. Administrative and support service activities

18. Arts, entertainment, and recreation
19. Other service activities
20. Activities of households as employers; undifferentiated goods- and services-producing activities of households for own use
21. Activities of extraterritorial organizations and bodies

Each sector is further divided into sub-sectors and categories to provide more detailed classification. The ISIC is regularly updated to reflect changes and developments in the global economy.

The international standard industrial classification of all economic activities in Rwanda is known as the Rwanda Standard Industrial Classification (RSIC). The RSIC is based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) developed by the United Nations. It classifies economic activities into different sectors based on their nature of operation.

The RSIC provides a detailed categorization of economic activities in Rwanda and is used for statistical purposes, economic analysis, and policy formulation. It enables the classification of businesses and organizations into specific industries, facilitating the identification of trends and patterns within the economy.

The RSIC follows a hierarchical structure with four levels of classification. At the highest level, economic activities are grouped into sectors, which are further divided into divisions, groups, and classes. This hierarchical structure allows for a comprehensive and systematic classification of all economic activities.

The RSIC covers a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade, transportation and storage, accommodation and food services, information and communication, financial and insurance activities, real estate activities, professional, scientific, and technical activities, administrative and support service activities, and many more.

The RSIC is regularly updated to reflect changes in the Rwandan economy and ensure consistency with international standards. It serves as an important tool for data collection, analysis, and reporting, contributing to the understanding and development of Rwanda's economy.
