WHAT ARE TROPISM

Tropism refers to the growth or movement of a living organism in response to a stimulus, usually towards or away from the stimulus. It is a characteristic behavior exhibited by plants and some simple organisms. Tropisms can occur in response to various stimuli such as light (phototropism), gravity (gravitropism/geotropism), touch (thigmotropism), water (hydrotropism), and chemicals (chemotropism). These responses allow organisms to adapt and optimize their growth and survival in their respective environments.

Tropism is the biological phenomenon where a plant or organism responds to an external stimulus by growing or moving in a specific direction. Tropisms are usually observed in plants and are influenced by various external factors such as light, gravity, water, and touch. There are different types of tropisms, including phototropism, gravitropism, hydrotropism, and thigmotropism, each responding to a different stimulus.
