They find a lake and are relieved to see soldiers approaching on the other side. The soldiers inform the scouts that they're being rescued, and the scouts rejoice. They're heading back to civilization and away from zombies for good.
As they boat away in the safety of the soldiers' arms, the camera pans back and we see that the soldier's base has been overrun by zombies. The scouts have survived, but it's clear that the zombie apocalypse is far from over.
