What is slaked lime?

Slaked lime, also known as calcium hydroxide, is a white powdery substance that is produced by adding water to quicklime (calcium oxide). It is commonly used in a variety of applications such as soil stabilization, wastewater treatment, and as a component in many construction materials including cement, mortar, and plaster. Slaked lime can also be used in cooking, particularly in the process of making pickles, and as a chemical additive in some food products.
